Greenhorizons supplies a wide selection of locally grown, quality turfgrass sod varieties for residential, commercial and recreational applications. Years of experience combined with research-proven seed varieties and cutting-edge equipment & techniques all go into providing the best possible sod.
Data from the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP) is combined with independent studies to select varieties best suited to the climates, soils and use conditions of Ontario. Consistent, high-quality sod is also the result of utilizing equipment technologies such as GPS guidance, high efficiency irrigation booms and automatically stacking harvesters.
Selecting varieties and developing new methods of establishing sod fields is an on-going process. In 2010, Greenhorizons invested more than $40,000 in trials at the Hamilton Sod location to investigate new technologies and methods
An innovation offered exclusively to the Ontario market by Greenhorizons is washed sod. In this process, the soil is removed with water from the sod leaving only the plant material ready to be transplanted into an existing rootzone. As a result, washed sod can become established faster and with fewer compatibility issues when time and playability are essential.
